In the Classroom

The children have prepared our aquarium for live plants, fish and a crab. The rocks have been washed and the tank filled. We visited A World of Fish where we learned about a variety fish, underwater plants and what would do best in our freshwater aquarium. The children fed Koi, watched a live feed and touched a chocolate chip starfish. We returned to school with 5 live plants and 3 Zebra Danios to start. We will add the crab and additional fish as the water comes to the proper chemical balance. Here are some pictures of the preparations, outing and aquarium.

Observation Schedule
The best way to learn about Augsburg Park Montessori School is to visit our classroom. Observations offer families an opportunity to get a glimpse of what life is like in a Montessori classroom. Since we only accommodate one family at a time, these visits are scheduled by appointment only. Adult visits are offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30, mid-October through the end of March. To schedule, call Janette at 612.869.8155
Presenting at the Annual AMS Conference 2008
Together, Janette and Sinéad will present at the Annual American Montessori Society Conference in March of 2008. The conference will be held in Washington D.C. The 2007 Annual Conference gathered more than 5,000 participants from as far away as Hong Kong, New Zealand, Uruguay, and West Africa, as well as 48 states. It is a great honor to be chosen to present.
The presentation, Parent Education: What’s the Point?, will highlight the Parent Education Program at Augsburg Park Montessori School. Parent Education is a vital part of creating a partnership with families, to best meet the needs of each child. Conference participants will gain a better understanding of the benefits of a thorough, prepared and sequential parent education program.
APMS Celebrates 100 Years of Montessori Education
The year 2007 marks the centennial of Montessori education; it was 100 years ago that Dr. Maria Montessori opened her first “Casa dei Bambini” (Children’s House) in the San Lorenzo district of Rome.
We joined thousands of other Montessori teachers from around the globe in NYC to celebrate. It was reported to be the largest gathering of Montessorians. Maya Angelou was the keynote speaker and was phenomenal.
A Montessori Journey, 1907-2007, is NAMTA’s Traveling Centenary Exhibit, which celebrates and showcases the Montessori legacy and vision through a collection of photos, artifacts, materials, furniture, and video. To date, it has traveled to San Francisco, New York City, Toronto, Houston, Washington, D.C., and Cleveland. Its final home will be here in the Twin Cities at the MTCM, where it will be installed as a permanent collection, creating a museum open to the public. For this special event, we will join other NAMTA conference participants for dinner and a tour this state-of-the-art exhibit.
